Nathan Schloss plans on attending Johns Hopkins university this coming fall.
Nathan Schloss graduated from Milken Community High School in 2010 with a diploma of distinction. He actively participated in the Mitchell Academy of Science and Technology (MAST) program at his high school. In 2010 he was captain of his high school’s robotics team for the second year in a row. He arranged his team’s trip to Israel making them the first American team to compete there. His team went on to make finals there, making them the first non-Israeli team to advance to the finals in Israel. His team also compete in Los Angeles that year and ended up with a ranking of 14th, the best ranking that the team has ever gotten. Because of his work with his robotics team he became the first winner of the Los Angeles “Dean’s List” award. The “Dean’s List” award is the only award in FIRST robotics that is awarded to individual students.
In 2009, he led a team to win 3rd place in the lunar exploration category of the Pete Conrad Sprit of Innovation Awards. Nathan has also conducted research in multiple labs, including the Center for Embedded Networked Sensing at UCLA and Perceptronics Solutions. Also in 2009 Nathan was captain of his school’s FIRST robotics team (team 1836), having helped build up the program, he led his team to obtain a 23rd ranking at international championships last year (there are thousands of FIRST teams) and changed his team from being one that was not even recognized regionally to competing at a championship level.
For about four months during 2008 Nathan went to high school in Israel on a program run by his high school. Furthermore, Nathan was actively involved with the technical aspects of his school’s theater productions and has done things from creating robotic dogs to programming the sound-board for plays.
