Very often I get people asking me what Linux distribution I use. I used to be a big fan of Linux Mint, but in the past year I have moved to Ubuntu. This is why I no longer use Linux Mint.

It looks like in a effort to boost their dwindling console sales, sony has decided to attempt to appeal to the anti-semitic market by banning words like “Jew” from their “home” service. Read the washingtonpost for more info.

Hamas

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Evil, Israel, Judaism, Politics, Religion

Hamas unilaterally suspended the Egyptian-brokered truce with Israel, launching hundreds of rockets at civilian targets in southern Israel over the past week.  Israel has exercised maximum restraint, but – after eight years of missile barrages from Gaza – must come to the defense of the 250,000 Israelis living within range of Hamas attack.  Any other [...]

Notice how calm the Israeli children as the siren announces that bombs are being launched at their city. Their song perfectly illustrates their life, they were born into a situation where their lives are threatened on a daily basis… enough is enough!

Every fiscal year Wikimedia (the organization behind Wikipedia) produces an annual report that talks about what it has accomplished and how it spent money. This year’s report can be viewed here. Like most reports of this type, wikimedia’s report has nice graphics and is visually appealing. However, unlike most reports of this type, wikimedia uses the [...]

AIPAC

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Israel, Judaism, Life, Religion, School

Last night I got back from the AIPAC high school summit. I went with 7 other kids from Milken, 7 out of the 8 (me included) went on TIF. Over all it was a fun experience, I liked spending time with people that I have not spent time with since Israel and I also really [...]

Dispicable

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Evil, Facebook, Google, Judaism, Life, Rants, Religion, Websites

Around passover MTV aired two very good holocaust ads. They are here and here. Both of the ads are good at making people think. It looks some anti-semites realised this too and modified parts of the ads to talk about the “holocaust” of the palestinians and to claim that the real holocaust never happened. I [...]

There is a difference

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Evil, Internet, Israel, Judaism, Politics, Rants, Religion

Look at the Arab protest, then watch the Jewish response… (this video is from march 2008, the Muslims are supporting this terrorist attack and the death of Jews, the Jews are singing songs of peace)

Now that google translate has Hebrew, I can’t help but feel that the other Jewish languages must feel left out. However here is a list of good resources for other Jewish languages. Yiddish There is a good Yiddish/English dictionary here. There is a Yiddish wikipedia here. Ladino There is a good Ladino dictionary here. Dzhidi Unfortunately [...]

For the longest time the best online Hebrew translator was milon.co.il. Unfortunaly milon.co.il can only translate one word at a time. However it looks like Google Translator now works for Hebrew!!! Let the homework cheating help commence.

My Yom Kippur

Written by Nathan Schloss. 1 comment Posted in: Cool, Judaism, Life, Politics, Religion

Over all I had a pretty good fast this year. I had pasta right before the fast and it seemed to do a good job of keeping me full. On Yom Kippur night I went to Beni David and about half way through the service I met a very important person. No it was not [...]

Israel is not the only one

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Cool, Israel, Judaism, Religion

Did you know that Israel is not the only place where Jews self govern? There is region in Russia where Yiddish is an official language and judaism is taught in the public schools. This place is called the Jewish Autonomous Oblast and even though Jews now make up only about 1% of its population they once [...]

Seeds of Hate

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Evil, Israel, Judaism, Politics, Rants, Religion

Can we ever make peace? What scares me the most is that the the children are not only told to kill Israelis, but they are told to kill Jews, wherever they might be.

Is Israel not letting Jews in?

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Internet, Israel, Judaism, Religion

Israel recently decided to close up shop in Ethiopia and to stop facilitating the immigration of the Falashmura. Jews, who had been practicing Christianity. (look here for more info). This decision kind of worries me, because IMHO these people are Jews, and even if they are not then they are stilled allowed into Israel because [...]

I don’t think that it is any secret that CNN often manipulates stories about Israel to be pro Arab and anti Israel and Jewish. Recently I read an article that talked about the current “cease-fire” in between terror/government group Hamas and  the state of Israel. The article is here and its neutral POV (point of view) equivalent on Fox [...]

Today I went to see the movie “You don’t mess with the Zohan”. It was funny, and after being in Israel for 4 months I understood a lot of the jokes that the other people in the theatre did not understand. However that is not to say that the audience did not understand the jokes [...]

Back Home

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Anouncements, Israel, Judaism, Life, Religion, School

Yes, I am back home. But I can’t sleep so I have decided to write about what I did during my last few days in Israel. Last week I heard from this person from an organization called the David project. He talked to us about how to defend Israel in public. He showed us examples of [...]

נא לגעת

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Israel, Judaism, Life, Religion, School

Last night I went to a play at the נא לגעת (English: Nalaga’at, Lit: Please Touch) center in Tel Aviv. The play was entitled “Not by Bread Alone”, it started out in a bakery and showed people baking bread, then they put the bread into the oven and while the bread is baking we see the dreams of [...]

“Israeli” Science

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Israel, Judaism, Life, Religion, School

Yesterday I went to the Weitzman and the Israeli Maritime college. It was supposed be a day themed around Israeli science. However it really wasn’t, the stuff we did at the Weizmann we could have seen at any normal science museum. The stuff we saw at the Maritime college was really cool, but it was [...]

Written by Nathan Schloss. No comments Posted in: Israel, Judaism, Life, Religion, School

Last week we went in to the desert to see one of the main things in the Zionist dream. Making the desert bloom. We left campus on Wednesday and went to this place called Revivim. Revivim is an really old kibbutz that was setup as an experiment to see if Jews could live in the [...]
