New iGoogle layout

I really hate it when developers change something when the old system worked just as well if not better than the new one. Mozilla did it when they got rid of the lock icon if FireFox and it looks like google just did when they moved the tabs in iGoogle.

The old iGoogle had tabs at the top of the page, like almost every other website.

However the new iGoogle has moved the tabs to the side.

If you are like me and want the old tabs back then follow these 3 easy steps…

1) Go to http://www.google.co.uk/ig?hl=en

2) Click the sign in button in the top right corner and if prompted sign in

3) Enjoy the old iGoogle tabs and update any bookmarks or homepage settings

CNN- Anti Israel and Anti Semitic propaganda just for you

I don’t think that it is any secret that CNN often manipulates stories about Israel to be pro Arab and anti Israel and Jewish. Recently I read an article that talked about the current “cease-fire” in between terror/government group Hamas and  the state of Israel. The article is here and its neutral POV (point of view) equivalent on Fox News is here.

After reading the well crafted CNN piece of propaganda I decided to break down the article and show how CNN takes a story about Israel upholding a peace agreement that the other side broke by hurting Israelis and makes the story seem anti Israel.

The article’s first line is “Hamas leaders in Gaza are still committed to a cease-fire agreement with Israel despite numerous rocket and mortar strikes Tuesday, a Hamas spokesman said.” Right off the bat CNN takes the story and makes it seem like Hamas is the good guys without outright lying. This first paragraph fails to mention that the rocket and mortar strikes come from Hamas controlled territory and that the attacks hurt Israelis.

Next, the article talks about how Israel is thinking of canceling the treaty. But the article has still not mentioned that the attacks carried out hurt Israelis. They make it seem like the attacks hurt Hamas, but despite all that Hamas still wants peace. Now, it is not like CNN outright lied, on the contrary, CNN has yet to lie, but they have very carefully crafted an article that blames everything on Israel.

The article next talks about the people who carried out the attack and that they did it in response to an Israeli military operation in the West Bank. Then it talks about how the treaty says that Israel will stop military activity in the Hamas controlled Gaza strip. But it talks about them in such a way that it seems like the treaty included PA controlled West Bank as well as the Gaza strip. Yet the treaty did not.

Another way in which CNN sets the tone for Israel hate is by the picture that it put up next to the article. The CNN article shows a Hamas soldier smiling apparently about the truce. This sets the tone of the article by making it seem like that it is Hamas that is trying for peace and that is what the Gaza residents want. But this is not true, so even though CNN has not lied, they have implied something that is not true. In fact 67% of Palestinian Arabs support terror against Israel even after the creation of a Palestinian Arab state. On the other hand, if you look at the Fox News article then you will notice that the picture that they show is of Israelis and how they have been effected by the most recent terror attack.

I really wish that I knew why CNN likes to manipulate stories like this all the time. It is because of missreporting by news sources like them that Israel gets so much international poltical pressure every time it tries to protect its people. It may also be the reason that so many people have died in places like Sderot.

Zohan movie and YAJH (yet another Jewish holiday)

Today I went to see the movie “You don’t mess with the Zohan”. It was funny, and after being in Israel for 4 months I understood a lot of the jokes that the other people in the theatre did not understand. However that is not to say that the audience did not understand the jokes that only Jews would understand, this is understandable as most of the audience looked and acted Jewish (except for a few people who looked very out of place).

At first I thought that the movie was giving Israel good PR. It showed how awesome the defence forces are and it showed Israelis trying for peace. But it also had many bad points, it showed Jewish Israelis trying to cheat Americans who were buying electronics and it also showed a soldier in the IDF stealing from a Palestinian who spat at him.

On a different note…

Tonight is the start of the Jewish holiday of Shavuot. And because I am no longer in Israel that means that I have to get the pleasure of celebrating two days of the holiday. This means two days of yom tov and no electricity…yay. (I hope that you can sense the sarcasm)

Mistakes in the school yearbook

Today I went to school and saw people who I have not seen for 4 months. It was really nice to see how people have changed and grown. I also got my yearbook and noticed that the TIF page and the page about the 10th grade shabbaton had the same descriptions that last year’s did (For example the TIF page says that we left for Israel in 2007 and that there are 39 people on the program, they are only 36 and we left on Feb, 28, 2008). The mistakes are kind of funny, but I wonder if the yearbook editors had something against the tenth grade. hmm……(jk)
